Grade 8: Introduction to High School Course Electives
On March 21st, 2019, eighth graders from SHSID attended a meeting in the Primary Auditorium. Ninth grade is the start of high school courses, which includes electives.
The meeting was held by high school teachers, who informed the eighth grade of the three courses that they were allowed to choose for ninth grade: Biology, Information Technology, and Physical Geography.
In the Biology course, students will learn about the relationship between population and environment, evolutionary theory, the history of life on Earth, genetics, and much more. One key difference of ninth grade Biology is the inclusion of more lab experiments for students to better understand the topic.
For Information Technology, there are three courses: Information Support & Services, Interactive Media, and Programming Basics. These courses will teach the students the basics of AI and computers to better prepare them for the future in many careers, such as engineering.
Last but not least, we have the Physical Geography course. The ninth grade geography course will be about astronomy, meteorology, hydrology, and other areas; students will learn a wide range of knowledge.
The meeting concluded with Q&A, when eighth graders asked questions about the move up situation in high school. Fortunately, there will be more move up opportunities in high school. Let’s go, eighth graders!
