Grades 9-10: Club Fair

March 21, 2019

During the last two periods of Wednesday, March 20th, the annual SHSID club fair began. All Grade 9 & 10 students and teachers participated in the fair with passion on this beautiful day.

The fair featured thirty-five sets of tables and chairs, along with various items such as brownies, laptops blasting EDM music, vials of various chemical compounds, and colorful posters from each club explaining their own activities set up along the entranceway to the Zhongxing Building. Students from both 9th and 10th grade looked in wonder at the diverse collection of clubs before them, sometimes gasping in awe at some particularly awe-inspiring exhibits. Running concurrently with the club booths was the club showcase, where each club got a chance to talk publicly for up to two minutes about their own activities and get the word out about their club to any aspiring students. All students could take advantage of this opportunity to learn about different clubs, which presented a good chance for smaller and lesser known clubs to introduce themselves and try to recruit new members.

Since there were over 20 different clubs, students were able to discover clubs that may help expand and further develop their current interests. This diversity of the clubs also showed the various dedications and talents students at SHSID possess, from chemistry experiments and public speaking, to knitting and donated scarves. Many clubs are also dedicated to charity or aim to help children in poor cities, showing how much SHSID students care for the unfortunate and are willing to sacrifice their time and energy to help others.

During the respective club presentations, after club leaders summarized the main objective and activities of their clubs, many fervent club members and listeners supported with vigorous applause. Overall, this was a great experience where students were able to not only meet new people but also find out what clubs and communities were out there to join.
