Pudong Grade 2 (Science): Simple Machines
What are simple machines? Grade two students at Pudong campus have been working tirelessly to discover new ways to use simple machines that make people's lives even easier.
Students discovered that the use of levers, ramps, and pulleys can make jobs more manageable for people in the real world. Catapults were created in the classroom using levers and fulcrums to discover how far various items could travel across the room. Experiments were conducted with different types of ramps, so that students could investigate the effects of steepness and friction. But that wasn't all! The students were so engaged in learning about simple machines that grade two decided to create their own. The second graders worked independently at home to create amazing and useful machines with real world uses. Students used the knowledge they learned in class to decide what type of simple machine they could use to make work easier for people in real life. Grade two then brought in their fantastic creations to show off and experiment with together.
The project was a huge success and the students proved their creative abilities as inventors! Some may have even been inspired to become an inspirational inventor in the future!
