Grade 11 Company Visit: INTCO

March 21, 2019

On March 18th, around a dozen SHSID juniors visited INTCO, a company dedicated to an environmentally friendly mission. Our first stop inside INTCO Shanghai was a massive exhibition displaying INTCO’s products. Using recycled PS plastic, INTCO creates many products, including frames and walls. Cooperating with other businesses, such as Walmart and Ikea, INTCO creates beautiful paintings embedded inside eco-friendly plastic frames. INTCO’s technology allows them to compress lightweight PS into a higher density block and give the plastic textures that resemble materials like wood or marble. After admiring their exhibition, INTCO’s staff educated the students on plastic. There are 7 types, and PS is number 6. Currently, 70 percent of PS remains recycled, and INTCO is trying to spearhead the initiative to change that status quo. Students were then led into INTCO’s meeting room, where the staff explained the impact of INTCO’s job. Plastic poses a major threat to the health of all living organisms. Students were prompted to be more aware of their use of single-use plastic and lead a green lifestyle. Upon leaving, INTCO gave every student a special PS frame, a token to remind them that small actions can make a big difference.
