Grade 11 Company Visit: The Educational Collaboration Agreement between SHSID and SHIMD

From updating Baidu Map’s navigation system to engaging in strategic city planning, the Shanghai Institute of Measuring and Drawing plays a crucial role in recording the geographic information of Shanghai. On March 20th, a career day visit to this institute gave students a precious opportunity to interact with some of the most advanced technology in the field of topography. The researchers at the institute introduced the software for 3D model building, as well as the drones used in data collection developed with the goal of digitizing and preserving Shanghai’s geographical and urban features. The transfer of a 2D image into a digitized, 3D model fascinated the students, and they were able to observe a recent model of SHSID taken using this technology.

As one of the main features of this exciting encounter, the students were able to witness the establishment of a partnership between the institute and SHSID. Principal Ma, Director Liu, and the Head Teacher of G11, Ms. Gu, attended this contract signing with the institute. Dean Wang and Principle Ma consecutively gave speeches that expressed their faith in the benefits of this partnership. We can expect this collaboration to extend the scope of the student’s education in the application of the latest technology, and benefit students’ understanding of the rapidly developing world in the future.
