Grade 11:College Counseling Course on Supplementary Essays

On March 5th, the juniors gathered again in the XMT annex to participate in the college counseling course. During that session, Mr. Nikolich lectured the students on how to prepare supplementary essays for their applications. The supplementary essays are among one of the most essential aspects of the application process, as they provide a platform for the students to display their creativity as well as the reasons behind applying to specific colleges. With many samples from renowned universities, Mr. Nikolich showed the students what the colleges expect to see in their essays. In the final twenty minutes of the class, Mr. Nikolich engaged the juniors in thinking about their essays as he asked, “why are you going to you [top choice university]?” and told the students to brainstorm a theme on it. To many students, this question did not merely present difficulty in writing, but also in choosing one university. Nonetheless, each student left the auditorium with increased knowledge of the college application process and supplementary essays, and are more prepared for the upcoming college application season.
