Grades 11-12: Teaching Base Signing Ceremony at Hong Mei Primary School

March 5, 2019

On the afternoon of March 1st, Principal Ma Feng, Director Liu Qin, Mr. Ma Kaichen, and representatives of SHSID’s High School clubs came to Hong Mei Primary School to join the signing ceremony for the establishment of SHSID's teaching base at Hong Mei Primary School. A Little Teacher activity was carried out in Hong Mei in 2013, which was the first cooperation between Hong Mei and SHSID. At that time, some SHSID students from Chinese Taipei played a role as tutors in Hong Mei. The relationship between both schools has also been enhanced. More extracurricular activities are established for both schools under the guidance of the Party network building. Students from both schools benefit a lot by taking part in each other’s activities, such as after school clubs, MIX Day-A multi cultural experience activity held by SHSID, fantastic rope jumping by Hong Mei’s students at SHSID’s Talent Show, and more. An Art Festival was held by the two schools in the Shanghai Botanical Garden in 2018 during the season of the International Flower Festival, which was a huge success. Principal Ma and Mr. Li Fenghua, the headmaster of Hong Mei, have signed the agreement for further cooperation, which represents that a new and friendly relationship is being developed under the guidance of the Party network building. After the exciting signing ceremony, volunteers went to their respective classrooms to meet their little friends with their full preparation and delicate teaching plan. Pluto, Stanford, and Brian from the 11th and 12th grade brought the first volunteer class to the students in Hong Mei Primary School with the electronic bricks. Beginning from the question, “What is electricity?”, the three “teachers” shared their knowledge through gaming, letting their students study and make foundations for their further learning in Physics and other subjects.

The short teaching event finished upon the school bell. The three little teachers' voices went a bit dry afterwards. They discovered teaching is really not easy and it takes hard work. But when they saw the smiling faces of these little friends in showcasing their own projects, they realize the satisfaction coming from helping others. It is all worth the effort.
