Recently some interesting art pieces have been displayed in an exhibit in the entrance lobby of Annex Zhongxing building. It’s Chinese traditional calligraphy and landscape paintings by CiCi Chen from class 10(7).

Five calligraphy works and six paintings make up the whole exhibition.

The painter CiCi Chen had been learning Chinese calligraphy and landscape painting since age ten. One font, official script (an ancient style of calligraphy from the Han dynasty), took her five years of practice, and she has reached level seven of the official calligraphy level examination. She is now practicing another kind of font called small seal style (an ancient style of calligraphy during the Qin dynasty).

Two of the five calligraphy works are the copies of the great calligrapher Mr. Liu Bingsen, so the style of which are a bit different than the others. Chinese painting is CiCi’s personal interest, but she really worked hard on it. The fan is one of her earlier works so her skills weren’t that great yet, but by comparing to her more recent works, it is obvious that her skills have improved over time.

CiCi brought her works to share with everyone because she wants more people, no matter Chinese or not, to feel the beauty in Chinese traditional arts, to know a little more about Chinese culture and history.

We appreciate CiCi’s sharing and wish her skills will become better and better. Moreover, we look forward to seeing more work appearing in the exhibition!
