Grades 7-8: Lecture about the Xia, Shang, and Zhou Dynasties

February 26, 2019

China has a profound culture with a long history that many students are deeply interested in. On Feb. 25th, a group of students who love Chinese culture gathered in Room 413 of the new art building to listen to a lecture about the history of the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties.

During her lecture about the mysterious ancient culture, Ms. Chen Lu posed questions about history from a song, then showed the amazing culture of the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties through PowerPoint. The students were very interested in this topic as they actively explored the secret of oracle bones, shared their understanding of historical figures, and discussed the dynastic cycle. Interesting questions were asked one after another, which the students avidly answered. During the process of answering, some of the students showed their abundant knowledge and curiosity of the subject, while also offering their own opinions about historical figures and events. After the lecture ended, students were still immersed in the mythical color of the Xia, the mysterious pictographs of the Shang, and the different philosophies of the Zhou.

This lecture was very meaningful and gave students more knowledge about the culture of the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties, which they do not encounter commonly in their daily lives. This allowed students to appreciate China’s long and colorful history.
