Grades 5-6:Assembly and Goal Setting

February 24, 2019

Drizzly Spring weather in Shanghai welcomed the students back from the Winter holiday. They returned to school in high spirits, as they were excited to have another new semester together. On Thursday, the second day of school, they were anxious for the first CAS class of this semester.

The first half of CAS served as the continuation of the previous day’s Opening Ceremony. They gathered in the auditorium for awards presentation. On behalf of the school, Ms. Zhuo, head teacher of 5th grade, and Ms. Shirley, head teacher of 6th grade, presented certificates to the outstanding students of the previous semester: Star of the Semester, Star of Service, Star of Sports, Star of Good Participation, Star of Independent Learning, Star of Good Discipline, Star of Art, Star of Good Assignments, Star of Caring, Star of Progress, Star of Reading, and Star of Green. The audience applauded warmly as the proud recipients went on stage to receive their certificates. Congratulations! These awards remind what is important aspects and encourages them to work harder.

Then, the students went back to their classrooms for the second half of the block. Under the homeroom teachers’ guidance, they set personal goals to become better and to achieve new heights in this semester. These goals should be challenging but achievable. Some students set their goals using Mr. Shen’s goal-setting tricks that he had shared during Opening Ceremony-- “Mini Goals.” A big target can sometimes be too hard to achieve directly and students could easily lose determination. A much easier way to achieve is to break the target into multiple mini achievable goals. Making many of these “baby steps” can seem insignificant, but will eventually lead to the ultimate target.

With a new set of goals, all of the students are now ready for another vibrant and rewarding semester!
