Primary and Middle School Math Department: 2019 AMC8 Awards
On January 8th, 2019, the AMC8 scores were finally revealed after three months of anxious anticipation. AMC8 focuses on assessing students’ math skills, including critical thinking and logical reasoning. This event occurred just after SHSID students achieved success at the Berkeley Mini-Math Tournament. Once again, our competitors proved themselves as dedicated math scholars by giving top-notch performances.

In the competition, 42 students from SHSID placed in the top 5% globally. Further, 14 students placed in the top 1% globally. Daniel Chen from 7(2), Lucas Wu from 8(1), and Eric He from 8(7), earned the top three places among SHSID students. Out of 25 total possible points, these students’ scores were 25 points, 23 points, and 22 points, respectively. It’s important to note that out of all participants from across the globe, only 45 competitors earned the full 25 points, and Daniel Chen was one of them! We are so proud of our students’ efforts and achievements.
Overall, each student learned important skills during these two consecutive math events. Not only did the participants improve their math understanding, but they also strengthened their passion for and commitment to the subject. In the new year, SHSID hopes that more students will follow in their footsteps by finding a newfound appreciation and love for mathematics!
