Grades 11-12: Winter Ball

January 10, 2019

On January 5th, 2019, the ASB held the very first event of the new year: the Winter Ball. This year’s theme was “City of Stars.” Despite the rain outside, juniors, enjoying their last few weeks before finals, and seniors, rejoicing at the completion of their college applications, joined at Mia Fringe on Huaihai Road to celebrate the city that never sleeps.

Decorated with golden balloons and velvet, Mia Fringe was filled to the brim with excitement. Participants lined up to take photos at the intricate photobooth, while others signed their names on the signature board. There was a plethora of small activities—including cards and fear pong—to participate in. Then, everyone’s favorite time—dinner—came, which featured delicious buffet options including chicken penne, lasagna, salmon, and other exquisite delicacies. While everyone ate, four students performed a live string quartet to accompany that night’s dining.

Soon after, the King and Queen fashion show began. Sporting costumes ranging from the cute to the bizarre, the contestants did not disappoint. They elicited applause and cheers from the audience, who voted for their favorite couple. As the junior ASB concluded their dance performance, Royce Wu and Patan Tippitak were announced as the King and Queen (or King and King) of the 2019 Winter Ball. The night ended with dancing to new and old songs alike. It truly was a splendid way to begin the new year. Thank you to all ASBs and teachers for hosting and to all of the participants for coming; we look forward to the next event!
