Middle School Biology Department：Amazing Experiments About Water！

Instructors from the Chinese Academy of Science came again this week! We did two fascinating experiments that showed the amazing properties of water.

The first experiment was the underwater volcano. When a small bottle of hot water (dyed blue) was placed in a big beaker full of cold water, the dyed water started streaming out so fast that it actually looked like a volcano!

The second experiment was the most thrilling, since it included an “explosion”! Half of a tall container was filled with liquid nitrogen, while one of the instructors held a kettle of boiling water. Finally, it was time for the explosion. The instructor poured some of the water into the liquid nitrogen, and “poof!” A cloud of smoke rose up as water splattered everywhere. We all bent down to feel the smoke as the instructor poured more water in. Overall, the experiments were very exciting and interesting.
