Puxi Grade 2: Using Coins to Decorate Your Christmas Tree

December 29, 2018

In week fifteen, Puxi second graders finished learning about coins. They can now not only recognize coins accurately, but also use them to add, subtract, and the show changes. At the same time, students learned how to use Keynote in their IT class.

Combining their knowledge of coins and Keynote skills, the Puxi grade 2 teachers designed a Decorate Your Christmas Tree project. Students each had a maximum of 500 cents to spend. They needed to “buy” certain things from the given list, graph the amount and price of the items, work out the changes, and use coins to show the changes. At last, they had to use the items they bought to decorate their Christmas trees.

The students’ work surprised their teachers as they were filled with beautiful Christmas colors, accurate calculation, and organized charts. It showed their great passion and genuine interest. This project let students practice using keynote and was a good review for what they learned in math class.
