7th Grade: Chinese Speech Competition

December 26, 2018

As the piercing wind stroke our faces, the gloomy sky flushed the land. Contrasting with the dramatic weather outside, the 7th graders merrily celebrated Shanghai High School International Division’s 25th anniversary. The speakers expressed their love for SHSID through a Chinese speech competition and were all fully prepared.

The audience was buzzing, excited to welcome the speakers onto the stage. They cheered for the participants and encouraged them as they spoke. In order to engage the audience, the speakers made jokes and used the power of Chinese language. Some speeches even appealed the students’ beliefs towards school life. William Zhang from 7(1) described students’ behavior before and during tests, truly reflecting SHSID students’ opinions. In his speech, he gave vivid examples and portrayed what the students looked up to—“test god”. Amy from 7(1) depicted how love and warmth are spread throughout the campus. For example, she praised the diligent workers who make our campus brighter and cleaner. Some other participants used old Chinese to further illustrate a beautiful campus in our mind. Herlin from 7(7) compared SHSID’s beauty with a lively girl, and she emphasized that every part of it was perfect. Her speech touched our hearts. Most of the speakers shared their personal stories about this amazing school. Oude from 7(1) sketched his life at SHSID by satirizing the awkward moments he had, making the audience laugh gaily. Numerous speakers joked about how large our attractive campus is by saying that they got lost countless times. No matter how the participants expressed their ideas, they were all expressing their fondness of our school.
