Principal Bao awarded prizes to the winners of the I love SHSID 25th Anniversary Drawing Competition and Writing Competition. Afterwards, we watched a special celebration video made by teachers, parents, and students of the primary section, in which they expressed their sincere congratulations and wishes to SHSID. The culminating celebration was a Cake Ceremony. With the lights out in the auditorium, the candles were lit up, all the teachers and students sung the Happy Birthday song together. Two students, two teachers, one parent, and Principal Bao were invited to the stage to blow out the candles and make their wishes. G5-6

Shanghai High School International Division celebrated its 25th anniversary on Dec. 21st with a fabulous program of events. All of the fifth and sixth graders as well as teacher and some parents were in attendance.

Students watched the live show, which was held in big auditorium, via live stream in their homeroom classrooms. Although they were not able to see the program delivered in person, they were still moved by the enthusiasm and entertainment found in the performances.

Being an audience member was not simply enough for this wonderful moment. The students of fifth and sixth grades also prepared birthday gifts for the school. A gift-exchange ceremony located in the indoor gym was open to all the teachers and students. Videos created by students a couple months ago were played inside, videos which vividly described SHSID school life. These videos sparked a feeling of reminiscence in the students’ hearts as they reflected on their happy times here at SHSID. After that, a couple performances from students as well as distinguished guests began. One fifth grade student played the violin, while sixth grade students played the saxophone and ukulele, greatly impressing the audience with their skills. These students performed a sort of modern interpretation of old Chinese songs, seeking to demonstrate a vital idea of SHSID, that of respecting various cultures and time periods while seeking to leave one’s unique stamp in all things one does.

The highlight of the birthday celebration was no doubt the birthday cake and song. Principal, teachers, and students placed candles on the delicious birthday cake together. In commemoration of this momentous occasion, everyone sang the birthday song to the accompaniment of various instruments. Meanwhile, the mascot of our school, Mr. Panda, also joined in, sharing in the joy and excitement of all the fifth and sixth graders.

The anniversary drew to a close with the launching of paper fireworks, accompanied by applause and laughter from those watching. This event not only celebrated SHSID’s 25th anniversary, a notable feat, but also served as a unique opportunity for staff campus-wide to unite and wish SHSID continued success for the years to come.

Around 9:30 on December 21st, the 25th anniversary celebration of Shanghai High School International Division officially began for 7th and 8th grades. To celebrate this important birthday, students all recorded their memorable experiences at SHSID through words, pictures, or videos. At the celebration, the cheerful wishes of student representatives to the school were heard, and the vivid video made by eighth graders to honor this day was cherished by all. The video contained moments of unforgettable school life, the love for this school expressed by students in 25 languages!

While the students were enjoying the video, 25 student representatives, looking exited, each held a candle on stage silently. When the video was over, the birthday song boomed over the speakers and the excited students sang along. Two students pushed a huge birthday cake on stage, and even the school mascot, the panda, joined eagerly. The enthusiastic singing drew a beautiful close to the ceremony.

The celebration was over, but the party wasn’t. Students returned to their classrooms to share the birthday cake and have a contest about school history. The series of activities further increased the students’ gratitude for this school, along with the pride of being a student here.

Pudong Campus

The official celebration ceremony of SHSID’s 25th anniversary was ushered in on December 21st. On Pudong campus, students and teachers gathered joyfully and enjoyed the fantastic celebration activities together.

As the ceremony commenced, cheers and applause resonated through the auditorium. Though not present at the ceremony spot, watching the live broadcast from Puxi campus infected everyone with the passionate atmosphere.

Then came the showtime for Pudong events. Firstly, students’ video clips and words from parent representatives filled the auditorium with warmth and gratitude. Secondly, students’ brilliant literature and artwork about SHSID were showcased and rewarded with prizes; they were the precious birthday gifts given to SHSID, glittering with the passion and imagination of students. The poetic words and creative paintings focused on memorable activities at school, connection between students and teachers, and bright prospects of SHSID, all of which won high admirations from the whole audience.

How could a birthday party be complete without a birthday song and a cake? There was no need to worry since we had prepared an enormous cake for not only SHSID, but for 25 students and 1 teacher whose birthdays were in December as well. While the cake was shared on the stage, the Happy Birthday song was sung in Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, German and English by students and teachers which was the climax of the ceremony.

After that, the celebration continued beyond the auditorium. Students went back to classrooms and started working on another celebration project, ‘What I like about SHSID……’ Painting with vivid imagination, everyone presented a unique birthday present to our beloved school.

At lunchtime, Chinese noodles and spaghetti were served since noodle dishes are a staple for birthdays according to Chinese tradition. Birthday cake together with noodles-what a perfect treat for this special day, bringing together the core of SHSID which is a multi-cultural learning experience. Happy birthday to SHSID and let’s set our hearts on the next 25 years!
