Grade 11: College Counselling Course
Grade 11: College Counselling Course
During fourth period on December 4th, 2018, Ms. Zhang Nan, the college counselor, gave the 11th graders a lecture detailing college application processes across the world. Her presentation included colleges from Europe, the United States, Hong Kong, and Canada–each with their own admission requirements. For example, Oxford and the Imperial College London in the United Kingdom require a student to have taken at least 3 Advanced Placement (AP) subject exams (with a preferred score of 5 on all exams), while Cambridge requires at least 5 subjects.
Ms. Zhang Nan also covered topics such as interviews and self-evaluations. When choosing a college, one must not be afraid of having high standards and expectations from a college campus in order to ensure a comfortable on-campus experience. Furthermore, she recommended websites such as collegeboard.org and bigfuture.collegeboard.org in order to help students search which colleges are right for them. She urged students to spend time researching colleges they want to attend and to use these websites, which are the most updated and reliable sources of information other than admissions officers, to aid them in their college searches.
