Grade 9: Voices From Beyond Performed at the Retirement Home

On November 23rd, SHSID’s Voices from Beyond made another trip to a retirement home in the XuHui area of Shanghai. Voices From Beyond is a club made up of students from grade 9 and grade 10 who are passionate about performing onstage and want to spread happiness while doing so. Voices From Beyond also performed at the retirement home in early 2018. When the students arrived at the venue, the old men and women were already waiting for them, eager to watch them perform.

The show was about an hour. At the end, all the elders applauded for the performers. Upon exiting, some elders and performers exchanged words of gratitude and shook hands with each other. One elder was even crying because he was touched by the performance.

Before they left, the elders also had a conversation with the students. They told the students where they did good on the performance, how they appreciated the students coming to visit, and told the students where they could improve. One elderly lady recommended that the students provide a Chinese translation for every performance, so the elders could understand more of them.

Voices From Beyond was very happy to perform at the retirement home and felt immense respect for the elders. They hope to continue to perform at the retirement home for the elders and spread positivity through their performances wherever they go.
