Grades 5-6: Journey to the Natural History Museum & Dunhuang Exhibition

November 21, 2018

On November 15, all of the 5th grade students went to the Natural History Museum in the afternoon. The 5th graders were all playing and talking while waiting in line. The wonderful journey began right at the entrance. Our students’ breath was instantly taken away! They explored the animal world, entered the dinosaur era, observed the botanical garden, and finally visited our own history. At each exhibition, the fifth graders pointed and whispered. In between exhibits, they all had a million and one things to talk about. Even on the bus ride back to the school, they were still talking about their truly magical time at the museum.

On Nov. 15th, the 6th grade students went to the “Dunhuang Exhibition” at the Shanghai Center for their field trip. They learned about Dunhuang’s history, culture, and the important role of Dunhuang in the Silk Road. On the first floor, they saw models of the Mogao Grottoes, their formation, the various decorations, and the Buddha statues inside. On the second floor, they examined a cart from ancient times, the tools and pots of Dunhuang, and the goods traded on the Silk Road. Some of the products were so delicate and beautiful, it was hard to believe that they were made hundreds of years ago!

On the third floor, there was a screening room that told us more about the exhibition, the Mogao Grottoes, and the Silk Road. There were also Buddhist mantras on display that were over 5 meters tall!

All the students had a great time at the “Dunhuang Exhibition”. They learned a lot about Dunhuang and enjoyed looking at the historical relics. It was a very successful field trip!
