Primary School: Basic First Aid Lecture at Pudong Campus

November 21, 2018

During the CAS class on Nov. 15th, Ms. Liu, a doctor with 30 years of clinical experience from the Red Cross Society of Pudong New Area, came to Pudong campus and gave us an instructive lecture on basic first aid.

The lecture began with the origin of the Red Cross and focused on common emergencies and first aid procedures. Though most of the first aid knowledge was not new to us, executing it is another story. For instance, dialing 120 to make an emergency call actually requires some specific skills. Ms. Liu’s explanation enlightened us on these matters.

During the lecture, Ms. Liu specifically introduced first aid for emergencies like burns, drowning, electric shock, and FBAO. Students were invited to perform the Heimlich maneuver and CPR. They also got a chance to watch the operation of AED. From curiosity to comprehension, students got to understand first aid in a professional way.

In addition to the abundant first aid knowledge acquired from the 40-minute lecture, a first aid kit was given to each student. The pragmatic activity taught us how to stay calm, search for help, and deal with emergencies in a proper way.
