Grade 11: Junior Project

On November 15th, the weekly morning assembly was held for the 11th graders. Mr. Jonathan Roberts took the stage to give an overview of the upcoming junior project. The junior project is a year-long project in which a group of six to eight members from different homerooms will try to devise an answer to one question. This year, the question is: “What can we do to improve quality of life in Shanghai?” To answer this question, Mr. Roberts advised the students to first evaluate what “quality of life” means before jumping into their research. Students are expected to utilize knowledge from a variety of subjects they learn about in school to explore this project. Mr. Roberts further stated that although depth of thought and creativity are crucial to success, the projects have to be pragmatic and applicable to the city. To help the students keep up their work, mentors will be assigned to each group, and monthly assessments will be held by using the ratings: Outstanding, Achieved Goal, or Insufficient. Mr. Roberts ended the morning assembly with encouragement and hopes that everyone will do a great job and learn valuable lessons from this project.
