Grades 5-6: Sunrise Library Charity Lecture and Donation Ceremony
Grades 5-6: Sunrise Library Charity Lecture and Donation Ceremony
On November 16, two teachers from Sunrise Library came to SHSID to give a lecture on “Love Reading”, a book donation project they are working on.
First, Ms. Siying gave a vivid description of what the student representatives did at Wu Lou and Lu Zhuang Primary School in Henan Province. She said that the students and teachers from SHSID visited to see how the schools have changed and donated some more sports equipment. The photos all showed colorful images of the local students there, happily playing with the sports equipment and reading books that were bought with the money from last year’s Charity Carnival.
SHSID students visited the new reading corners they set up for the 260 students at Wu Lou Primary School and watched a very exciting play the local students performed called “Monkey Subdues White-Skeleton Demon”. The actors showed absolute confidence and thoroughly displayed each character’s personality, thrilling the entire audience. The teachers from SHSID also taught interesting math lessons in English to the students there.
At Lu Zhuang Primary school, teachers and students from SHSID were welcomed with a book recommendation from the students. Local students also prepared letters and special gifts. Students from SHSID were invited to join the Sports Meet there, and the friendship blossoming between each group of students was strengthened.
Next, Ms. Yuan gave an introduction on the development of the “Love Reading” project. The first stage of the project, to create the reading corners of Wu Lou and Lu Zhuang Primary School, is complete. Next time, student representatives from SHSID will go to Ji Zhuang and Yu Ying Primary school!
After their presentation, the five students who went to Henan this semester shared their impressions of this trip. Everyone agreed it was a memorable and meaningful trip. One student said that he liked the play “Monkey Subdues White-Skeleton Demon” the most. He thought the play was wonderful, and he was touched by the effort that the students put into it. It was clear that the local students want to become better at studying but lack adequate resources. If you give them a single chance, they can give you a miracle! The students at SHSID also realized that they should be grateful for what they have already, and genuinely felt the fun of helping others through charity.
At last, there was a donation ceremony. SHSID Grade 5 and 6 section donated 30,000 RMB to the Sunrise Library. Ms. Yuan expressed her sincere gratitude for the donations from SHSID and hope that even more people will join this donation project!
Your donations will make a difference in the lives of many children waiting for help!
