Grade 9: Assembly – Personal Growth Check-in Meeting

November 15, 2018

On the morning of November, the 14th, 2018, there was a 9th grade assembly held in the XianMian auditorium. The assembly encouraged the ninth graders to reflect on the first two months of their first semester in high school.

Students were then given information about the field trip they would be taking that day. Next, the students were encouraged to reflect on their difficulties in daily life. For instance, if one’s “conflict” was getting a low score on an English Exam, their next step would be to set goals. For instance, a potential goal could be to spend less time on one’s phone. A teacher then provided an example of conflict he encountered and set a goal for in his life: procrastination. He now prepares all his meals for the week in advance to try to eat healthier and use his time wisely.

The assembly provided some affirmations to students who did not do well on their midterms and inspired students to work harder. Students were also advised to bring an artifact to school that is not academic-related. The purpose of this activity is to help students discover their own identity and how they are special.

To conclude the assembly, the book club was introduced, where students could read books together. The teachers recommended a few books, including one about feminism. In joining the club, students could read the books and conduct discussions about the books together.
