Grade 7: Stress Management

During CAS class on Thursday, October 25th, the seventh graders learned more about stress management. Although they had studied this topic previously, it is still difficult for most students to manage stress in real life.

To help students understand more about stress management, our teachers performed an activity that required students to separate into a few groups to think about what makes them feel stressed. Then, the groups wrote the top two most stressful aspects of their lives on two pieces of paper. The papers were then scattered on the floor to represent obstacles and the students were divided into two opposing sides: the negative side and the positive side.

Two students were selected: one student covered their eyes while the other student guided the first student through the paper to help avoid them. If the first student stepped on a piece of paper, then he/she would have to stop. The negative side would have to say something negative to the student and the positive side would have to say something positive. The game continued until the two students passed all obstacles.

If a person is feeling stressed, what the people beside him/her say will largely affect the reaction of the person. If people say negative things, then the person will feel stressed. If people say something positive, then the person might start to calm down and he/she might turn positive, too.

Through this game, students learned that when they are stressed, encouragement from friends, teachers, and parents could be very helpful. Friends should know that when others are feeling stressed, they should give comfort and encouragement, but not make fun of them.

Stress management is very important, either now or in future. We believe that students have understood stress more through this game and will be able to manage stress more effectively throughout the rest of their school life.
