The Rising Sun Among Snowy Mountains

Second DayThe temperature dropped drastically on the second day and everyone was suddenly acutely aware of the coldness in Qinghai. Bumping all the way from Hualong, through Gandu, and to Xunhua, we finished the distribution of charitable materials to six schools and paid a visit to Chanma Primary School. It was a race against time. The principal of Miaoergou teaching center was also the only teacher there. He had already reached retirement age, but stuck to his post due to teacher shortages. His spirit is respectable, but it reflects a sad reality.

We then arrived at Ditan Primary School, where the new teaching building has been put into use and the construction of a new kindergarten is in full swing. Here, our volunteer students played games with the local students.

When we arrived at Machang Primary School, we were happy to learn that the new teaching building would be put into use in early November. The children here are generally poor. We met a girl who wore very thin clothes and was shivering in the brisk wind. Immediately, one parent volunteer took out her own daughter's new sweater and put it on the girl. Along the way, four children experiencing similar situations were found. Deeply touched, the parent volunteers contacted their friends in Shanghai at once and asked them to send more clothes. What they have done should be much appreciated!Shijielie teaching center has a small number of students and one middle-aged female teacher. Nevertheless, everything is well organized. We sent scarves weaved by our SHSID students to the children there, and had a wonderful time singing songs together.

In the afternoon, the two schools became the stage for our volunteer students to perform in talent shows – they sang, danced and performed cheerleading to warm up the atmosphere. When the children in Tangsigang received the schoolbags and stationary we had donated, they were truly happy and excited. We then paid a visit to Ahetanteaching center, where we donated a lot of cognitive cards and played an entertaining game with the students called ‘What Time is it, Mr. Wolf?’ The local boys and girls even sang songs to express their happiness and gratitude. It was a busy day, but a lot of fun.It rained on the third day of our charity trip. We struggled against the rugged mountain road and there was even a roadside landslide! With the joint efforts of the parents and drivers, we finally arrived safely at Jianshetang Primary School on the top of the mountain. Accompanied by melodious Tibetan music, our volunteers and the local children spent a pleasant time dancing together. When we finished the distribution of donated goods, we went to have lunch in the cafeteria. There, we learned a story about a girl in desperate need – she and her siblings were abandoned by their mother who remarried after their father had passed away. Shocked by her situation, one of our volunteers took out her own cotton coat and put it on the girl without hesitation. I believe that there will always be seeds of love rooted and sprouting in forgotten corners. Our last stop was Zewen Primary School in GangzhaTownship. Upon our arrival, there was complete silence in the school - it turned out that the students had gone back home due to the terrible weather. The whole charity trip was completed successfully and we created many precious memories together.
