Bilingual Debate Competition
Bilingual Debate Competition
On October 23rd and 24th, 2018, SHSID and SHS students partook in the first elimination rounds of the bilingual debate competition at the XMT auditorium.
The competition itself was a wonderful showcase of the bilingual skills that both Shanghai High Schools’ students are required to demonstrate. Each team is composed of two international division students and two local division students. The actual debate had an English round and a Chinese round, both composed of two minute speeches, with a 6 min crossfire period at the end of each. Afterwards, two speakers from the opposing teams would summarize the debate to the 8 judges.
The end of the first two days of competition brought with it numerous surprises and fantastic discussions on the topic of whether or not globalization was a threat to traditional cultures. Congratulations to team two and team four for making it to the next rounds and especially to two students for being the best debaters in their respective debates.
The next two elimination rounds will be held on October 30th and 31st from 12:20 to 1:00. We look forward to the exciting debates and your support for the SHSID debate community.
