Grade 9: Assembly – Student representative’s Speech
Grade 9: Assembly – Student representative’s Speech
During the Wednesday, October 24th, 2018 assembly, Eden from 9(1) gave a speech in the XianMian auditorium about her valuable experience in soccer. First, Eden was forced to play soccer by her parents, which really helped her truly enjoy the sport. Soccer was simply an activity that her and her family decided was worth to try. After exploring the sport, she decided to give it a shot. She didn’t start the sport knowing anything. However, her coaches and parents were very helpful. This supported her, and by the end of her second season, she became the MVP of her team. This gave her a lot of courage to pursue the sport because it showed her that she had some capability in the field and that she would be able to succeed. Last year, she attended many tournaments, both in China and internationally. She played with both boys’ and girls’ teams, which had given her a great opportunity to hone her ability, since the boys team were more competitive and skill based, and the girls team worked more as a team. More recently, she received a scholarship to go to Venice during the summer and the camp really helped her to improve her as a player. However, as beneficial these experiences were, there were definitely struggles that she needed to overcome. When she first started playing soccer, she was the only girl in the soccer team, which made it hard for her because her teammates stagger her ability. After many struggles and devotion, she was able to improve and earn her credibility within the team. Going to competition is hard, so she had to get used to the field and the opponents. These challenges have shown her how important it is to be able to adapt to changes not only in sports but also in other things. During the tournament, it is crucial to quickly adapt to team and surroundings. She learned to be more independent because she had nobody to rely on during the camp in Venice. Many people say that sports help you to be healthy, but Eden also thinks that sports help you to improve mental awareness. She strongly encouraged everyone to try viewing from a different perspective or try something new. If Eden’s 9-year-old self did not agree to try playing soccer, she would probably not be here today and more importantly, she might not have many experiences. She also clarified that these experiences make us who we are. Lastly, she claimed, “If you could remember anything from today, remember that if all else fails, we are defined by our experiences, and I promise you that, from that perspective, we are all unique.
