Grade 6: Goal Setting!
Grade 6: Goal Setting!
In Youth Development class, we've learned how to set our goals with S.M.A.R.T! Setting goals is an effective way to keep track of our study progress and to ensure that we are making progress every day. In order to make this learning strategy more effective, we need to set the right goals.
In Youth Development class, we learned about the criteria for setting good goals: S.M.A.R.T, which stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound. “S" stands for specific, which means that your goal needs to be detailed. “I want to be rich”, for example, is an unspecific goal. On the contrary, “I want to earn $1000 every week” is a specific goal. "M" stands for measurable, which means that your goal should be something you can track. You could set a clear deadline or make yourself accomplish a fixed amount every day/week/month. "A" stands for Attainable, which means that your goal needs to be one that can be achieved. Rather than setting a goal as: “I need to lose 10kg this week”, think of setting: “I need to lose 10 kg this semester”. “R” stands for realistic, as in your goal needs to be possible to finish. You can’t set a goal to turn your head 360 degrees! Lastly, "T” stands for time-bound. Each goal needs to have a deadline or else you might never do it because of procrastination.
In conclusion, we learned how to set goals in a specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound way.
