Debate Club: First Session

On September 20th, SHSID Debate Club’s first meeting of the 2017-2018 school year was held in Room 308 of XMT. Debate Club is one of the oldest and most decorated clubs on campus and includes debaters with experience spanning almost every debate format available at a high school level, including Public Forum, British Parliamentary, Policy, World Schools, and more. This year will be especially exciting, because the Novice branch of the NSDA’s—the largest global high school debating society—Shanghai regional tournament will be held right at our school. SHSID Debate Club will be providing comprehensive training for members new to debate, as well as a platform for veterans to practice, collaborate, and take their debate skills even further. During the first session, club members, both old and new, got a chance to know each other and develop a sense of how Debate Club will help them in this school year. On this occasion, SHSID Debate Club also invited Coach Peter from Enreach, one of the largest debate training organizations in China and one of the sponsors of NSDA, to introduce his own debate experience and share some of his “wisdom” on how to improve as a debater.
