Grade 9: College Counseling Course
Grade 9: College Counseling Course
On Thursday afternoon, during 6th period, rather than the normally scheduled academy courses, a college counseling course took place in the Xian Mian Auditorium. Ms. Zhang gave a lecture on what is included in a college application as well as the systems students can use to apply for college. She began with introducing the holistic application and the five parts that make up an application, ranging from the more explicit academic achievements and standardized test scores to the importance of letters of recommendation. Ms. Zhang stressed the significance of building strong relationships with teachers so that their letters of recommendations can be positive and sincere.
After students finish applications, they must find a way to send them internationally. Fortunately, Ms. Zhang suggested a variety of useful systems students can use to apply to colleges in different countries. This includes the Common Application, which is used primarily when applying to colleges in the United States. Ms. Zhang concluded by advising students to explore extracurricular activities they are interested in so that they may find something they sincerely enjoy. Even in the midst of all the responsibly and work freshman students will take on, they must find a way to enjoy life. To quote Ms. Zhang, “Choose what you like, then you’ll like what you choose.”
