Grade 11: Parents' Meeting

On Sep. 20th, Grade 11 Parents’ Meeting was held from 17:30 to 19:00 in the Annex Auditorium and classrooms in XMT.

For the first hour, parents listened to an introduction about the school’s new academic policy, activities offered by school, and the college preparation process. First, Mr. Ma Feng, the High School Principal, started off introducing the model to provide a brief opening about how the curriculum functions. He focused on describing how the school focuses on cultivating students’ creativity, leadership and critical thinking skills in order to give all the students a chance to bring their talents into full play. Instead of emphasizing the significance of academics, Mr. Ma stressed the importance of activities and PE for students because they are both necessary for students to be healthy and reduce mental stress.

Next, Ms. Zhang Nan, the college counselor, centered her speech on the pillars of college application, including GPA, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, personal statements, and recommendation letters. She states that while students should focus on their academics during 11th grade, they should prepare for mock college interviews offered on campus during 12th grade. Furthermore, Ms. Zhang explained the family connection system in detail and highlighted the information recommended for parents to pay attention to.

Finally, Ms. Gu Ying, the head teacher of Grade 11, pinpoints academics, extracurricular activities, and numerous opportunities offered at school for students. Even with academics being a priority for all students, all teachers sincerely hope that the students can enjoy the process of college application. They suggested that students should think of college application as a relatively challenging method used to strengthen all of their soft skills.

After the speeches were over, parents went to their children’s corresponding homeroom to have a brief conversation with their homeroom teachers. Through these communications, many parents gained a lot more knowledge about their children’s lives at school.
