Grade 9: Start-of-School Posters -- An Artistic Flair to Start a New Year

Posters have always been a huge SHSID start-of-the-year tradition; they’re a fun and creative way to celebrate our classes and take pride in being part of something bigger – and this definitely is still the case for the posters G9 students created in celebration of the start of their high school careers.

Throughout the morning of September 18th, the eleven classes in ninth grade put up posters they had previously spent much time and effort creating to show their class spirit and enthusiasm for the new school year. Each class in ninth grade organized the creation of an A1-sized poster which was to be put on the notice boards at the back of their classrooms and judged by a committee of teachers and students later that day. The herculean effort shown by students resulted in amazing works. Shining examples include 9(8)’s use of a Chinese pun and colourful “My Little Pony” artwork to create an astounding poster, 9(6)’s realistic depiction of the daily life of a student in the form of food options for the day, and 9(7)’s aesthetically pleasing poster, which incorporated anime characters and artistic bubble text. Many students across the grade were involved in the organization and creation of these posters, with some even going so far as to take time out of their weekends expressly to be create these masterpieces. All classes displayed their artistic flair through this activity, and for their exceptionally great posters, 9(6) took first place in this competition, with 9(7) and 9(9) taking second place, and 9(8), 9(10) and 9(11) taking third.

Thanks to all the students who participated for putting their effort into these posters! Let's hope the rest of the year will be as great and as colourful as they are!
