Grades 5-8: ASB Election
Grades 5-8: ASB Election
With the coming of the new school year, the election for new members of ASB will be held in both grades 5-6 and grades 7-8 , and a new ASB will be established to better serve all students. So, who will come out king or queen of the popular vote, and who will be elected to the ASB this year? We’ll have to wait and see.
Grades 5-6:From the 34 candidates, 18 were elected as ASB members. 7 were taken from 5th Grade and the other 11 from 6th Grade.
During the election, each candidate gave a 2-minute speech. Roughly 500 students across all classes in Grade 5 and 6 were invited to watch and vote for the new ASB members.
Every candidate was well-prepared and did their best to give amazing speeches, using many different approaches to present their capability, personality, attitude and strong willingness to be part of the ASB. They used various techniques to capture the attention of the audience and win their votes.
It was quite interesting to see that some candidates deployed humor in their speeches. Everyone had great ideas on how to make our school a more fun place as well as a better environment for the students. Every candidate won applause after their speech and, although the whole session lasted for more than an hour, the entire audience was very interested and attentive.
We all look forward to seeing the final result of the election, and see who our new ASB members are!
Grades 7-8:
Long before the election, posters were put up on white boards that could be seen right as one enters the New Art Building. They were creative: some attempted a different style from others; many more maintained the interesting designs they used for past elections. Those with extraordinary posters were the candidates highlighted in our minds before, during, and after the election.
In CAS class, students went back to their homerooms to watch videos made by each of the candidates. Like the posters, they were innovative and impressive. They featured brief descriptions of the candidates, including, but not limited to, their names, grades and homerooms, hobbies, and what they would do to improve SHSID. All of the students enjoyed the well-designed videos. The candidates undoubtedly placed great effort into making their clips. It is secondary to discuss whether their suggestions to improve SHSID are realistic or not; these ideas will certainly be imperative in improving the school we learn in.
Unlike previous years, the 8th grade ASB candidates were divided into six departments this year: Study,Art,Sports,Supervision, Public Relations, and Media Departments.
This way, students could run for specific ASB roles they liked. Moreover, this change will enable further understanding of the purpose and function of ASB, and select those who can truly benefit the school.
Let's encourage this year’s ASB members to help hold more interesting activities and be role models for the students of the Middle School and SHSID!
