Grades 9-10: ASB Election

On September 19th, students filed into the Annex Building to observe and take part in one of the most important events of the start of the school year—the ASB election.

ASB, which stands for Associate Student Board, is a significant aspect of student life. ASBs organize events like Art Festival, Winter Ball, and Blackout, and they dedicate a lot of hard work in order to serve the student body. Without the effort of the ASBs, many enjoyable events would not take place. The ASBs chosen must be responsible, creative, and competent leaders, and this election serves as an important choice to ensure the success of the school year.

The 21 candidates come from 9th and 10th grade and articulated their speeches with confidence. The election process consisted of a presentation and a Q&A section. After each of the candidates’ two-minute speeches, a 30-second video was displayed. Candidates attempted to persuade the audience of their responsibility and to convince students to vote for them for better school activities and school life. Witty jokes and puns were made, with laughter filling the big auditorium. After every two speakers, an interesting Q&A session took place. The candidates were asked questions about how they see the SHSID community and how they would improve student activities. They talked about topics like, "What is your vision for SHSID?" or "Who is your favorite politician?" All of the creative and entertaining speeches, presentations, and answers gave students insight into the candidates’ potential so they can make smart choices for the future of their school year.

Good luck to all ASB candidates! We recognize all your hard work and bravery for running, and even if you don’t win, the student body still appreciates you. Let's look forward to the new ASB, and hope they become better and better.
