Pudong Campus: Arts and Craft Fun for the Upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival

According to Chinese customs, with the pure autumn moon shining, inspiration for a family reunion is sparked. The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known to our kids as the “Mooncake Festival”,will arrive a bit earlier this year. However, we couldn’t wait to take a bite of a tasty mooncake and enjoy the glorious full moon. In Pudong primary section, colorful activities were held in celebration of the traditional Chinese festival. This year, making crafts was the major highlight. Students worked on decorative art embued with their best wishes.

Students and teachers of Grade 1 to Grade 3 focused on fabric hanging ornaments, which stand for reunion and happiness. Various images such as Chang’e, a full moon, and the moon rabbit were attached to colorful fabric. After that, a Chinese knot was attached to the ornament with the sincere blessings of our students. There was no doubt that these exquisite ornaments added to the warmth of this charming season.

Grade 4 and Grade 5 students got more retrospective. They traced back to the origin of Mid-Autumn Festival and discussed customs that are still prevalent today - including the famous mooncake. Right after the discussion, the 4th and 5th graders started their mission: crafting the mini-rabbit lantern. With intuitive cutting and painting skills, everyone created their own delicate mini-rabbit lanterns. Let’s hang them up and wish for a prosperous new year.

During our prosperous Mid-Autumn Festival activities, students not only acquired new craft skills, but got to know more about our traditional culture.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
