Grade 10：Parents Meeting

On the afternoon of September 14th, SHSID hosted a parents meeting for the sophomores and their parents in the XMT Auditorium and the ZXB. The meeting was separated into two parts: the first answered commonly asked questions from parents about courses in the form of a lecture and the second introduced specific courses taking place inside the classrooms of ZXB.

During the one hour meeting, principal Ma and the college counselors spoke about the SHSID high school curriculum as well as the clubs/teams the school offers for students to participate in. Principal Ma emphasized the importance of not only academics, but extracurricular activities and competitions. To add onto what Principal Ma said, Ms.Nan Zhang introduced the teacher advising and college counseling office as a great resource. After Miss. Jiang detailed the 11th and 12th grade course selection, Mr. Samuel France showed all the parents a video summarizing all of the PE activities offered at SHSID. He encouraged students to join school sports teams based on their own interests and abilities.

The second half of the parents meeting took place in different classrooms of the ZXB, each dedicated to one specific course available to junior and seniors at SHSID. The last 10 minutes of every session was dedicated to question-and-answer opportunities for parents and students. This allowed a deeper understanding of the course and further guidance on course selection, extracurricular activities, college applications, and an overview of the three remaining years of high school.

After the meeting, both the sophomore students and their parents left with more knowledge about high school at SHSID. Ranging from course selection to college application, the knowledge provided will help students better plan the rest of their high school careers.
