Grade 10:CAS Activity

In grade ten’s CAS activity on Sep. 5th, 2018, students received various personal awards, prizes, and a lecture that aimed to help them combat procrastination. At the beginning, Ms. Zhang Yueyue issued out the individual awards in the 2017 school year, which included academics awards, social awards, good behavior awards, and physical fitness awards. All recipients came up to the stage and received the fruits of their labor, the certificates, honorably and confidently in a round of applause.

Then, Ms. Zhang brought forth the topic of personal growth, which is everyone’s focus in this school year. Ms. Zhang stressed the importance of personal growth in terms of academic improvement, social activity, and extracurricular activities. However, as students are striving toward personal growth, there are obstacles that everyone may face, with procrastination being the most important impediment. Procrastination is the habitual delay of finishing a task, and its influence on students’ behaviors is not negligible. With procrastination, students may fail a course, present low-quality work, or even lose interests in studying. To find an effective method to combat procrastination, Ms. Zhang invited four students, Wendy, Veronica, Suwan from 10(10) and Maechen from 10(7) to present their semester planner.

The four students presented their findings while planning their semester goals and advice on how to be more effective in time management. Moreover, they displayed their semester planner from the last school year to further demonstrate the importance of planning ahead.

Next, Ms. Zhang invited the ASB members of the 2017 school year to present their methods on how to combat procrastination. Michelle from 10(10) and Albert from 10(9) first gave an introduction on procrastination, including why procrastination matters in 10th grade and their experiences with procrastination. Then, the ASB presented their videos on procrastination, which demonstrated the consequences of procrastinating. All the students were fascinated by both the stories and the jokes in the video. Finally, the ASB members brought up a game that evaluated everyone’s extent of procrastination, and the winner received small gifts. Overall, everyone received various awards, prizes, memorable experiences, and most importantly, a collection of advice on combatting procrastination.
