Grade 11: The Juniors first College Counseling Session

On September 4th, juniors of SHSID attended their first College Counseling Session. The Head Teacher of 11th grade, Ms. Gu Ying, began by emphasizing the importance of college applications. Then, the college counselor, Ms. Zhang Nan, provided stories from past experiences to convey two ideas: the importance of time management and choosing colleges realistically. Next, Mr. Matthew Pardy asked the question: “Who are you?” Using his booming voice to keep students engaged, he talked about how to be noticed by colleges and stand out from other applicants. Mr. Max Slonim then delivered a speech about developing personality and how to show it in college applications.

The idea that academic achievement isn't everything lingered on everyone’s mind after each teacher's lecture. The students, grateful of the advice given, showed their appreciation in genuine applause.
