Grade 5-8:Fire Drill
Grade 5-8:Fire Drill
All the fifth and sixth graders participated in the fire drill on September 6th as their first CAS class.A fire emergency can happen at any moment. To best protect all the students, teachers, and janitors from an interior fire, we have an effective fire safety plan set in place every semester. This time, the school made sure the New Art Building was compliant with the latest fire codes and regulations. We installed smoke detectors and alarms system in the building during the summer vacation. A clearly marked escape route that was as short and direct as possible is present in every single classroom. Students were supposed to know about the routes at the very beginning of the new semester, particularly for those in 5th grade, as they were totally new to this building.
The 5th and 6th graders took it seriously. They lined up immediately at the door when the fire alarms went off. All of them arrived at the designated safety location quickly and calmly with towels covering their noses. The fire drill monitors raised up the green class cards, which showed everybody was safe. After the second practice, a meeting was held to discuss more tips and advice on safety at school.Even though they were drills, they were very important because through practice, students learned what to do and how to behave in an emergency.
In order to enhance teachers and students’ awareness of safety, 7th and 8th Grade teams of SHSID organized a fire drill based on the principle of “Safety first, Prevention oriented” on September 6th, 2018. The fire frill started after teachers introduced escape skills to students. The loud and noticeable fire alarm went off, followed by a burst of smoke that came into the New Art Building. Guided by teachers, students instantly went into action. They quickly took out towels from the survival kits, wet them, put them on their noses and mouths, and ran out orderly down the staircase. Eventually, everyone got out of the building safely and lined up on the grass near the running tracks. No students doubt about the high frequency of the fire drill because it is these bi-annual fire drills that help them become familiar with escape plans and to be calm in an emergency.
