Grades 1-8：Opening Ceremony

The start of September means the start of a new school year! All of the primary students in SHSID gathered together in the primary school auditorium to celebrate the coming of a new school year.

During the opening ceremony, speeches were given by the primary section leaders and teachers as well as the student representatives: 2(2) Albert, 2(3) Jessica, 3(1) Cicy, and 4(3) Zachery. Students were presented with the “Twelve Stars” award as well as something both new and meaningful: all of the new primary students received a welcome letter from older students, including grade 4 students, who received a letter from the old fourth graders who are now fifth graders. Each student expressed his or her love to the school and encouraged newcomers to work hard.The old students ensured every new student that they will love their time at SHSID and learn a lot in this upcoming year, as SHSID primary section is a warm and lovely home for every student.

The 5th and 6th grade Opening Ceremony took place on September 3rd.

The ceremony began with speeches from two of our student representatives. Victor from 5(5) shared experiences from his past four years at SHSID and his wish for this upcoming school year. Harrison from 6(7) then talked about the importance of study, activities, and time management.

Grade 5 and 6 Director, Mr. Shen, followed. He outlined three important lessons in his speech:

1. A good start is half the success.

2. Be an independent learner and a responsible global citizen.

3. Take time but don’t waste time.

On the morning of September 3rd, Grade 7 and Grade 8 students attended the middle school opening ceremony in the auditorium.

First, Ms Shen, the Head of Grade 8, announced the Opening Ceremony. Then Leo Lu from class 7(8) talked to the students of his learning experiences. He came up with the metaphor connecting study and game. More exercises and the spirit of “never give up” were important. Then, Athena from 8(1) gave a speech about Service Learning. She knew study was important, but Service Learning was just as important. Eric He from 8(7) shared his experience in study and activities.

Then Mr. Ni gave the speech. He talked about the exciting coming year as well as school rules. He praised students as well as encouraged students. After that, Mr. Liu, the principal, also gave speeches to the students. He encouraged students to be critical thinkers and independent learners.

Afterwards, they called out the names of outstanding students of the past year and gave them all awards: Great Studies awards, Rapid Progress awards, Sports awards, etc.. Happiness and pride was gleaming on their faces, as the winners. Here is hoping that students have a happy and rewarding time in the coming year.

With the arrival of autumn, the new semester has begun. On the morning of Septemer 3rd, 2018, all the teachers and students of SHSID Pudong campus gathered together in the auditorium to have their opening ceremony for the new semester.

By welcoming the students and staff back to school, Ms. Liu, the director of Pudong campus, expressed her good wishes and expectations to all the students, especially the first graders.

The representatives from each grade were then invited to share their sweet memories and experiences in SHSID last school year. They showed their wonderful talents and expressed their expectations of this new semester. Each of the representatives gave us an inspiring speech, which impressed everyone present!

After the speeches came the climax of the ceremony: the awards ceremony. Semester stars were awarded to those who demonstrated their potential and efforts last semester. Students stepped on the stages and won not only prizes but also the respect of all present in the auditorium.

The opening ceremony ended in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Every child is looking forward to the new semester. We wish all the students spend a remarkable time in SHSID and make more progress this school year!
