Grades 9-10:History Day

The 9th & 10th Grade History Day is an opportunity to celebrate our students’ semester-long video history project and to display their historical creations in a fun afternoon event.

During the second semester, the 9th Grade students worked in teams to research a historical topic of their choosing to produce a mini-documentary and create an advertisement poster which captures the essence of their documentary. At the same time, the 10th grade students also researched a topic of their choice to write and produce a short historical film, using real movie posters as inspiration to create their own advertisement poster.

The History Day included an ‘awards show’ with five different award categories such as ‘Best script’, ‘Best research’, and ‘Best Overall Documentary/Movie’. The winning video in each grade was selected by History teachers from other grades during a review session. The day was a celebration of the History students and to keep with that, they were front and center in most of the proceedings. Student hosts, dressed in formal attire, energetically lead the proceedings using some humor and witty insights that engaged the audience and honored the videos. The hosts give way to the presenters of each category who are dressed either as a historical figure or displaying some cultural wear which added to the experience of history day.

The students also worked hard behind the scenes to create a stunning graphics presentation complete with an introductory montage to history and the students’ work, clips from the winning videos, and even an outtakes/bloopers section. In the end, all of the students were given public recognition and the winning groups received a certificate and small award for their hard work. History Day was truly a celebration of teamwork, dedication, and most importantly the vast wealth of events, people, and culture our global history has to offer.
