Pudong Campus: A Compassionate Visit & Donation at the Shanghai Healing Home
Pudong Campus: A Compassionate Visit & Donation at the Shanghai Healing Home
On the afternoon of June 7th, the student representatives of SHSID’s Pudong Division visited the Shanghai Healing Home located in the countryside of Pudong, accompanied by their teachers and parents. This visit was not only for the donation ceremony, but also for the enrichment of our students’ worldview.
This was a kind of test for the students as well. The Shanghai Healing Home (SHH) is a non-profit foster home that provides pre and post-surgical care to abandoned Chinese orphan babies born with surgically correctable deformities. The mission for the students of SHSID was to play with the kids while showing enough respect, which was not easy for them.
At 1:30pm, the school bus arrived at the destination on time. In order to ensure that the children’s afternoon nap would not be disturbed, the students, parents, and teachers stepped into the house quietly. After listening to a brief introduction by the staff, they went upstairs to interact with the kids. With encouragement and reminders from their parents and teachers, the students showed a lot of empathy and kindness, and sat around the kids sharing toys with them. The parents also showed their care and kindness by playing with the kids and reading storybooks with them. The room was filled with harmony and love.
Finally, saying goodbye to the adorable kids, the group from SHSID proceeded to the donation ceremony downstairs. We are glad to see that not only did the campus event enrich the student’s understanding of the world, but also it guided some to contribute toward improving the lives of these poor but lovely children. It was effort put in by the students and their parents in the charity fair that eventually brought this donation about.
