Beijing Opera Lecture

On June 8th, SHSID invited Ms. Wang Peiyu- one of the most revered Beijing Opera specialists of our time- to give our students a lecture about Beijing Opera and to raise awareness of Beijing Opera as an indispensable part of ancient Chinese culture. She first introduced the history of the art, covering its origins, its growth and spread, then the cause of its decline in the past 50 years and why we should save this unique piece of heritage. She then explained and demonstrated multiple features and techniques of Beijing Opera in an interactive manner that both captivated the audience and showed them the art-form’s unique beauty. After learning in such a modern way, the students left the lecture with a brand new, greatly improved understanding of Beijing Opera.
