Grade 7 H Level Chinese Social Affairs Speech Contest

The Social Affairs Speech Contest is organized by the 7th Grade H Level Chinese teachers, and aims to raise our students’ social awareness whilst also improving their language abilities.

During the competition, the students chose social issues of their own concern, such as sexism, aid in Africa, and assisting the elderly. In addition to introducing the event background to the audience, they also shared their own insights.

Two of the most popular concerns were ‘bear kids’ and campus bullying. In China, ‘bear kids’ are children who are spoiled, destructive, or extremely wild.

Our students’ point of view about bear kids was that they exist because of bad parenting. One of the students talked about his own parents’ parenting style, and contrasted it with the parents of today’s ‘bear children’. To deal with school bullying, our students proposed that schools should strengthen anti-bullying education in order to raise students’ awareness.

In this speech, the teachers and students in the audience learned more about current events, and at the same time felt inspired, and were able reflect on themselves.
