Grade 6:Art Exhibition
Grade 6:Art Exhibition
The first art exhibition contributed to, organized, and arranged by SHSID students opened on May 12th. The name of the exhibition they created was ‘Debut of the Graceful and Secluded Valley Orchid’. The name of this exhibition in Chinese encompasses one character from each of the four young artists who contributed to the exhibition. They were Melody Wu, Madeline Ma, Roland Zhang and Kevin Yang. The name also references a line from an ancient Chinese poem: ‘orchids bloom in the valley for none to adore’, to describe the emerging young artists of the exhibition, who are not yet mature in their craft, but each already demonstrating their own style and personality.
The exhibition will be held from May 8th to June 30th this year. There was a brief opening ceremony that was organized by two students, Melody Wu and Roland Zhang, and their parents. At the opening ceremony, Ms Liu spoke on behalf of the teachers of the Art Gallery and congratulated the students and wished them a successful exhibition. The parents outlined the process in which the two students learned to draw. Everyone marveled at how positive interest can imbue persistent motivation in children and how inspiration arising from life causes the children’s art to be more vivid. At the ceremony, a Western-style afternoon tea buffet was served. The guests enjoyed it very much.
It took more than 2 months for the teachers and the parents to go through a series of screening, framing, naming, and on-site arrangements of the paintings. This whole process was totally unfamiliar to the participants and their parents. But with the help from Mr Bao and Ms Fu, the exhibition preparation was very successful and smooth. Both the students and their parents have learned a great deal from this process.
