High School Biology Week: Biology Rap

On May 31st, the SHSID Biology Rap competition was held. The 8 participants chose their own beats and lyrics. There were four topics they could rap about: photosynthesis, transmission, DNA, and respiration.

After all of the students gathered in the room, Mr. Liao randomly picked a 10th grade student to start the competition. At first she seemed shy, but once the beat started, she confidently rapped about DNA. Following her were her friends and other participants who delivered verses various biology-related topics. The beats matched the lyrics, and some of the performances even sounded like professional rap songs.

This activity was successful for two reasons. First, students who enjoy rapping could show off their talents and second, through music that most of the students are interested in, they could easily learn and review facts about biology.
