High School Biology Week Activity: Banana DNA Extraction

At noon on May 28th, the high school biology week began its third activity: banana DNA extraction. Our students extracted DNA from bananas using detergent, alcohol and some glass test utensils.

At noon, teachers Zhang and Li prepared all equipment for the experiment. First, in order to damage the cell structure, they put a banana in a plastic bag, and crushed it with detergent. Then, they filtered it with gauze and a funnel. After adding alcohol, the students obtained the DNA product by stirring.

The students were very interested in the DNA they saw, and asked lots of questions about it. Success!
