Grade 8: Field Trip to the Shanghai Museum of Science and Technology
Grade 8: Field Trip to the Shanghai Museum of Science and Technology
On May 25th, it was raining cats and dogs. Despite the heavy rain, the eighth graders were very excited to go on for a field trip. This time, we went to the Shanghai Museum of Science and Technology.
The museum is dedicated to the popularization of science, with an intended theme of ‘Nature, Mankind, and Technology’. It has 14 permanent exhibitions and 4 science-themed cinemas. We explored different sections of the museum and took part in two activities that many were looking forward to: ‘The Journey of Food’ and ‘The Earthquake Experience’.
Then we listened to the museum guide and took notes at various sections. He told us that human activity has badly damaged the earth's natural environment. Ever since the industrial revolution, the rapid increase of productivity and population have caused a series of ecological and environmental problems. Troubling indeed.
After lunch, we went to the museum’s IMAX Theatre to watch a short 3D movie called ‘Dream BIG’. The movie described the rapid technological advancements that humans have made in the last few decades and showed how engineers pushed the limits of innovation in unexpected and amazing ways. We really enjoyed this little movie.
The visit of the Shanghai Museum of Science and Technology allowed us to enrich our knowledge and views of the various STEM fields. Now, thanks to the development of science and technology, we have experienced dramatic changes in our daily lives. In the near future, humankind will continually create more innovative solutions to touch and enrich everyone in this world.
