MMC Award

Students in Grade 7 & 8 of SHSID achieved excellent results in the 4th International Mathematic Modeling Competition.

The International Mathematic Modeling Competition (IMMC) is an innovative contest for secondary school students all over the world. The aim of IMMC is to promote mathematical modeling education and enhance students’ core competences in mathematics, encouraging participants to explore the applications of mathematical modeling in real life situations to solve problems of importance.

The students of our middle school were very motivated by it. For example, they applied mathematical modeling to solve the Winter Problem, which was ‘Resources Allocation for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations’. After data analysis and heated discussion, our students selected locations for different levels of charging stations, taking into account both the initial construction cost of charging station and the aim to minimize the charging cost for EV users. They created a model to plan and adjust the charging price on the basis of periods of time-of-use, analyzed the problems impeding the broad application of charging piles/stations and gave their solution proposal.

In this competition, four teams from the middle school won 6 awards. The winning teams and awards are as follows:

IMMC 2018 Winter Season

Meritorious: Atsuta Yusuke, Adelynn Shiyu Tang, Yan Feilin, Austen Lele Yun

Honorable Mentions: Eric Tang Zhang, Edward Hongwei Liu

Honorable Mentions: He Fengming, Wu Yuxiang, Xiyuan Yan, Zou Jonathan Hongru

IMMC 2018 Greater China

Honorable Mention: Eric Tang Zhang, Edward Hongwei Liu

On May 23rd, 2018, Principal Liu and Ms. Yan awarded certificates for the IMMC winners. Congratulations to them and wish them better achievements in the coming competitions.
