High School Biology Week Lecture: Basic Sex Education

At lunch time on May 28th, Mr Pardy and Mr Kaskan gave a lecture to launch Biology week. They gave the students of Grade 9 & 10 a talk on basic sex education, in hopes of improving these students’ understanding of a topic which is very important during puberty. They taught students how to view sex correctly and how to perform sex healthily with their future partners.

The main focus of the lecture was sexually transmitted diseases. Two teachers introduced several common STDs, explained how they spread, and listed their symptoms. Meanwhile, they also taught the students how to prevent and treat these diseases. For example, they emphasized on the importance of HPV vaccine and a comprehensive body check for STDs. While dealing with a more serious topic, AIDS, the teachers pointed out that this disease is not untreatable anymore. Next they introduced several methods of contraception and their advantages and drawbacks.

Finally, the teachers said that sex is not an embarrassing topic at all. They said the students should be extremely careful in order to protect themselves. This lecture gave the students better awareness and understanding of a very important topic.
